The Early
Intervention Program, serving infants and toddlers (birth through
age two), is a crucial part of the MRDD agency. Children
qualify
for Early Intervention Services if they have a developmental delay
in one or more of the following skill areas: communication,
mobility, learning, social, emotional, and/or adaptive. If a
child has a medical or physical condition that is known to cause a
developmental delay, they are also eligible. A history of
prenatal, neonatal, and early developmental events that may have
affected the central nervous system place many children at a
higher-than-normal risk of developmental delays--these children are
also eligible for MRDD Early Intervention Services.
Center-based and home-based services allow the EI specialist and team of occupational, physical, and speech therapists to work with the families and children within the context of the classroom setting and in the home. The program also offers other opportunities such as swimming for muscle stimulation and coordination, school psychologist conferences, and transition into local school district pre-school programs.
The Regional Infant Hearing Program is a unique addition to the Clermont County Board of MRDD, serving children who are deaf or hard of hearing (ages birth through two). To find out how you can work with a parent advisor, call the RIHP office at 732-7033.
