Community Relations/Social Activities/Volunteers

Community Relations is an area that relies on everyone’s assistance. Board Members, staff, and parents are needed to help communicate information about our agency to the public. As such, all employees and Board Members are considered ambassadors, carrying impressions of the purpose, culture, and value of the organization to everyone they know in the community.

Social Activities: In 1995, a Special Activities Coordinator was hired to plan evening activities for adults who participate in the MRDD program. Seven years later, the Community Relations Department now coordinates day, evening, and weekend activities for more than 500 teenagers and adults throughout Clermont County. Evening activities take place Tuesdays and Thursdays and consist of community outings (such as museum tours), recreational activities (open swim, open gym, arts/crafts, bowling), and social avenues (including dances, karaoke, movie outings, and pizza parties). Because some people work during evening hours, day activities take place on Wednesdays and Fridays and include such activities as Omnimax Theater shows, trips to the Krohn Conservatory and Newport Aquarium, and day bowling. We also take an active role in Special Olympics events on the local and state level.  For more information about recreation and social activities, contact Joan Arthur, Activity Aide, at (513) 732-4923, jarthur@ccmrdd.org.

Volunteers: People who express an interest in assisting people with disabilities to enjoy an active and meaningful lifestyle are split into four categories of the Volunteer Department. Leadership Volunteers are people who serve on the MRDD Board, Adult Services Board, or the Business Advisory Council; Agency Volunteers are people who are 18 years of age and older, who assist with recreational activities and volunteer at the Wildey School and for Adult Services; Teen Volunteers, ages 12 to 18, assist with a wide variety of recreational activities and also participate in two volunteer programs at the Wildey School; Group Volunteers are those individuals who belong to church groups, American Legions, and ladies auxiliary clubs whose main focus is to provide successful recreation activities by hosting large group activities (such as monthly dances). There are more than 180 people enrolled as MRDD volunteers at this time. All volunteers and their families are invited to the annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet, where volunteers receive awards and gifts in thanks for their many hours of service to the MRDD agency.  (Click the Volunteer Tab at left for more information about the Clermont County MRDD volunteer program.)
